What are your hours?
We are open Wednesday - Friday from noon - 8:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Where are you located?
24046 W. Lockport Street in downtown Plainfield. The addresses downtown have changed -- our
location hasn't changed. We are 2 blocks west of Route 59, approximately 1/2 mile south of Route 126.
What is bisque?
Bisque is clay that has been formed, cleaned and fired, and is now ready for painting.
Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are never necessary. We do ask that if you are planning a larger get-together with friends
or family (6 or more), that you let us know in advance simply so that we can accommodate you.
What is the price range of pieces that I can paint?
They range from $5 and up (not including studio fee).
What is the Studio Fee and what does it cover?
The Studio Fee is $6 per item. It covers the cost of all of your underglazes (paints), the use of decorative
sponges, stamps, stencils, carbon paper, idea books, overglaze, as well as the kiln firing.
Can I special order a specific piece?
Definitely! We will contact you once we have received it. In some instances (such as personalization),
payment may be required in advance.
What if I run out of time to paint?
No problem. We understand that life can get in the way of your relaxation! We will simply hold your piece
in our "Work in Progress" area. When you come back, simply let us know. A $3 studio fee will apply.
Are your paints non toxic? Do they contain lead?
All of our underglazes are non toxic, lead free, and food safe.
What if the paints get on my skin or clothes?
They will simply wash off with soap and water.
Can I bring food and/or drinks?
Yes, you are more than welcome to bring your own snacks and beverages. We have menus from a
number of local businesses that deliver to the Plainfield Art Factory.
Why can't I take my piece home with me?
The underglazes need 24 hours to dry thoroughly. Once dry, we apply an overglaze, which gives your
piece a smooth, shiny finish as well as makes your piece non porous. This overglaze also needs 24
hours to dry thoroughly. Pieces are then kiln-fired at a temperature of approximately 1800 degrees. The
kiln requires 15-18 hours to cool down.
